As we mentioned in our previous article there has been a recent explosion in bead and jewellery making magazines in the UK. Obviously the powers that be at the publishing houses have decided that making jewellery is going to be the next big thing. This is both good news and bad news for those of us that make jewellery.
The good news is that we have a greater selection of magazines on offer representing our craft; the bad news is that jewellery making could become homogenised and less unique as many follow the same designs in magazines which are targeted at the masses.
I welcome everyone who wants to make jewellery to the craft, but I do feel that magazines need to inspire us to be creative and not just thread a load of garish coloured beads on a string. Magazines need to offer us projects that are both attainable and creative allowing us to add to our skill set. On the other hand, we do not want ideas that require a huge investment in tools and equipments such as silversmithing and glass-blowing. Setting up your own silversmithing or glass blowing studio is great for the minority, but not for most of us.

With this is mind, we have decided that we would like to change our website to include more projects, teach different techniques, and have more of a magazine style focus. We’d like to update the content frequently and email out newsletters informing about new content.
We are also are considering changes to our bead range. We are considering specialising in certain product ranges and bringing in newer bead products more frequently. The newer lines would be limited editions, and so once the stock had been sold it would be replaced by a different product line. This means that we would not have to wait up to three months to have our beads produced, we could shop around and buy what is on the spot market and pass any savings onto you.
