When we surveyed our customers it was interesting to note that many jewellery makers and beaders were also avid card crafters. It is true that card making is one of the biggest hobbies in the UK, and when you think about how therapeutic making cards can be, then this is no surprise.
Making cards can take us back to the simpler time of our early school days when we would excitedly come home from school and show off our craft projects. Of course as adults we can become more expert and creative with wonderful decoupage and pirimage cards as well as creating interesting embellishments using embossing powder, glitter and glaze pens.
All we need to get started is some great cardstock and some unique card toppers to get our creativity flowing, we can then embellish to our hearts content. By using textured card, pearlescent paper or iridescent craft paper, we can get a range of effects. And by downloading the original card topper image rather than buying pre made die cut sheets in a craft store, we can be totally in control of our creativity. Printable downloadable card toppers, allow the user to print out the original image again and again, without incurring any further costs other than the use of paper and ink. This means that if we have a popular card design we can repeat it and sell it many times over.
Perhaps one of the best things about marrying card crafting and jewellery making is the fact that we can use our jewellery making skills and incorporate them into the card making process. A great tip for finishing off handmade cards is to tie a length of ribbon around the spine of the card and place a jump ring into the knot of the bow. Once you have done this just take a headpin and decorate with beads and attach to the headpin. Using this technique means that jewellery makers can embellish their card crafting projects in a unique and elegant way that many other card crafters will not be able to do.
The other advantage jewellery makers have when creating card is that it is relatively easy to create a pair of earrings or a unique beaded Christmas ornament and incorporate it into our card. Jewellery makers can make cards a complete with a gift, and provide an all in one gift solution for birthdays, Christmas or a special occasion. (See a special selection of Christmas Card Toppers )
Card making and card crafts can be a really great addition to beaders and jewellery makers as it is a complimentary skill that can help bring in extra sales for those of us who wish to make money from our craft. Even if we just create jewellery as a hobby, creating a quick original card with the use of a card toppers can really be a useful skill to have; a handmade card is always appreciated when it is received by friends and family .
